Unwanted calls and texts in Louisiana: what the rules say
Louisiana defines covered telephonic solicitation as a voice or data communication to a residential subscriber for specified sales, credit, or charitable purposes. Because the statute does not expressly identify SMS, whether a particular text is covered should be assessed under the law’s definitions.
Where the rules draw a line
The Louisiana Public Service Commission maintains a state Do Not Call list that includes Louisiana numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry. Exceptions apply, including express requests and certain existing relationships.
What this can mean for a consumer
The Public Service Commission investigates complaints and may impose administrative penalties after notice and a hearing. The reviewed chapter does not expressly provide a general private per-call damages claim.
Keep the details
Save the full text thread, call log, voicemails, dates and times, the company or product named, and any reply asking the sender to stop. Those details can help show what happened; they do not establish by themselves that a law was violated.
