Unwanted calls and texts in Oregon: what the rules say
Oregon’s sales-contact rules expressly include calls and texts. Covered sellers must honor opt-out requests, stay within the statutory calling window, limit contact frequency, and identify themselves.
Where the rules draw a line
The 2025 law expanding these requirements to texts took effect January 1, 2026. Exceptions include some charitable, polling, business-to-business, and responsive communications. Federal prerecorded-call rules remain separate.
What this can mean for a consumer
A private Oregon Unlawful Trade Practices Act action requires a willful violation and an ascertainable loss. The statute provides actual damages or $200, whichever is greater, plus possible fees and costs; this is not automatic per text.
Keep the details
Save the full text thread, call log, voicemails, dates and times, the company or product named, and any reply asking the sender to stop. Those details can help show what happened; they do not establish by themselves that a law was violated.
